The phenomenon of magical realism is examined in the context of Latin American literature, where myth and reality harmoniously complement each other. The novelty of the study lies in revealing howcollective myth-consciousness is integrated into the structure and textual space of the novel and functions as an effective instrument of resistance to bourgeois norms and racial discrimination. This determines the fundamental difference between the Latin American literary process and the European one, where myth-consciousness is more often individual-reflexive or tragic in character (for example, in German magical realism or Russian “mythological prose”). Despite the large number of studies devoted to magical realism in general (hundreds of articles and monographs on Latin American literature), the collective mythconsciousness in Jorge Amado’s work remains a relatively understudied aspect. While the mythological consciousness in the works of G. Garc a M rquez, A. Carpentier, or M.. Asturias hasbeen analysed in considerable detail, studies on the Brazilian author are dominated by general overviews of carnival and AfroBrazilian cults without a deep structural-poetic analysis of their integration into the fabric of the novel. Thus, the research emphasises the uniqueness of the Latin American model of magical realism, in which myth is notopposed to reality butorganically permeates everyday life, transforming itinto “marvellous reality”. The results expand the understanding of Amado’s magical realism as “solar realism” — joyful and life-affirming — and contribute to the study of cultural identity in Latin American literature. The article’s materials can be used in teaching world literature, Latin American studies, and special courses on magical realism.
